Why bleed is added twice

Bleed extends beyond both sides of each axis. A 210 × 297 mm A4 trim with 3 mm bleed on each edge needs a 216 × 303 mm document.

Bleed is not a safe margin

Backgrounds should extend through the bleed. Text and important marks should stay inside the trim line by the safe margin specified by your printer. Always use the printer’s production template when one is supplied.
