Set up the canvas
- Choose the finished physical width and height.
- Set the resolution requested by the printer. Procreate’s current handbook describes 300 DPI as its standard for printing.
- If ink reaches the cut edge, add the printer’s bleed allowance before drawing.
- Keep text and important marks inside the printer’s safe area.
- Export in the format and color profile requested by the printer.
Example: A4 with 3 mm bleed
A4 finishes at 210 × 297 mm. Adding 3 mm on every edge makes the working document 216 × 303 mm. At 300 PPI, round up to 2,552 × 3,579 pixels.
Two checks before printing
Changing the DPI field without resampling does not create new image detail. Also check the printer’s production sheet: its bleed, safe margin, color profile and file format override general advice.
